Mia is a skilled accredited mediator and facilitator. Building on her unique experience in law, negotiation, science and regulation, she approaches mediation as a process in which every party should win, following the philosophy that a jointly developed compromise generally yields the best results for all.  She has a reputation for achieving practical and creative solutions whilst improving relationships.

Before training as a mediator, Mia practised law for over 7 years in the London office of a leading global law firm.  As an EU, regulatory and international trade lawyer, she advised FTSE 100 corporations on some of the largest transactions in Europe.  She further worked for several years advising the UK and US Governments on the development and implementation of product environmental performance regulation and has advised industry and international organisations on the implementation of energy efficiency regulation. 

Mia is trilingual (fluent in English, French and Italian).  As a junior lawyer, she took a sabbatical at the European Commission in the Directorate External Relations’ (the Commission’s “Diplomatic Corps”) South East Asia unit and was appointed temporary desk officer for Brunei Darussalam.

Her professional as well her personal background make her an ideal person to lead a mediation or facilitation through the various stages of fact finding, building trust, and supporting parties in developing mutually beneficial solutions to complex situations. 

Outside of her professional career, Mia has worked as a life coach and lectured on negotiation.

Frank is a skilled facilitator of policy dialogues across national and international fora.  He has been involved in establishing and shaping new policy frameworks, including those for sustainable building, household and commercial appliances, renewable energy and new transport systems for governments, industry and international organisations. In addition, he has set up and carried out assessments of numerous government policies.

Frank has a unique depth of understanding across both technical and policy issues and a reputation for taking a no-nonsense approach and getting things done. 

While working for the Dutch Sustainable Technology Development programme, Frank contributed to the development of the backcasting methodology for sustainable development policy planning, a well-established tool to integrate social, institutional and technological factors in a common approach. He later applied this knowledge in other government assignments, in particular in the building and appliances sectors. Frank was also the Dutch representative to the European energy labelling regulatory committee, and initiated and managed several European projects.

As Policy Director for the UK Market Transformation Programme, Frank led the transition of MTP from a generic evidence-generation programme to one providing targeted support for the UK’s EU Ecodesign work. In his role as Technical Director for CLASP, he built and managed CLASP’s Global research and SEAD programmes and provided strategic guidance to the development of its country programmes.
